A weekly 45-minute meeting where AI researchers sit down over coffee and go through one paper properly. A different member hosts each week and presents it. That's the whole format — and it's the reason it keeps running.

The format
Reading groups die because the host burns out, nobody prepares, and the meeting drifts. Every rule here exists to stop one of those.
45 minutes, once a week
One standing slot. Short enough that it survives a busy week, long enough to actually get through a paper.
One paper. Nothing else.
No roundup, no news, no side quests. The whole session is spent on a single paper, read properly.
A new host every week
Hosting rotates through the room. Everyone presents eventually, and nobody carries the club alone.
The host presents slides
Not a read-along. The host prepares a real walkthrough — problem, method, results — and takes questions.
What 45 minutes looks like
The host runs to this clock, so the meeting ends on time. Every time.

Coffee and framing
The host names the paper and answers one question: why did anyone write this?
- 5–25min
The walkthrough
Slides. The problem the paper attacks, the method, the results that matter, and the one figure worth staring at.
- 25–40min
Open discussion
What's convincing, what isn't, what it breaks, and what you'd have to believe for it to hold up.
- 40–45min
Next week gets locked in
The next paper and the next host are decided before anyone leaves. This is why the club doesn't fizzle.
Everyone hosts. Eventually.
A club with one permanent host has one point of failure, and it fails around week eight. Here the host changes every week — you pick the paper, you build the slides, you run the room, and then you hand it on.
It is also the fastest way to actually learn a paper. You do not really understand one until you have had to explain it to people who will push back.
You don't prepare from scratch
- A slide outline that maps to the 20-minute walkthrough, so you are filling in a structure rather than starting cold
- Discussion prompts and one genuinely contentious question to open the floor with
